The Great Hedge Chase
The Great Hedge Chase is the opening movement of The Feline Fine suite, a string quartet suite inspired by the small dramas, sudden chases, and playful chaos of garden life.
This lively movement captures the feeling of our cats darting through the hedges, disappearing from view, then suddenly reappearing somewhere unexpected. The music is energetic, characterful, and full of forward motion, with a principal theme that returns throughout the piece in a rondo-like structure. Opening in A♭ major, the main idea is introduced clearly before being reshaped through a series of variations and contrasting passages. A later move to E♭ major brightens the colour of the music and gives the movement a lift before the chase gathers momentum again.
The score is written for string quartet and is supplied as a performance-ready PDF download. The download includes the full score and individual parts for each instrument.
